My next submission has been posted at The Village Magazine entitled, On Fathers. I’ve struggled long and hard for 29+ years to redefine what father means to me, as I was raised in a blended family, was adopted by my amazing step-father, and in the recent year have nourished a relationship with my half sister, with who we share an estranged biological father. It wasn’t until over the last year of being parents that I have learned to value and admire the challenges and triumphs of watching a man become a father.

This guy right here is our constant, and I’m so grateful to have him by my side as I traverse the ebbing waters of being a mother and a woman. Let us raise our son to be fierce and courageous, but soft and forgiving, for every man’s journey is long and trying.
